One day in Costa Rica, my friend was taken to a hilltop overlooking the barrio neighborhood by a little girl, who gestured out to the slum, filled with cobbled-together houses, and said, “Isn’t it so beautiful up here?”In the midst of poverty and struggles, this girl finds beauty where she is. In her eyes, the pieced-together houses splash every color of the rainbow onto the hills.
Looking above the rough and torn-up streets, the deep green mountains stand peacefully, a constant and calming beauty. We cannot always choose our circumstances, but this doesn’t mean we are excused to become victim to them. We have a choice to find beauty wherever we are.
