KCON Los Angeles 2017 was an incredible experience! I met so many wonderful artists and creators at the forefront of the modern Hallyu wave, including makeup artist Das, beauty vlogger Edward Avila, and violinist and Youtuber JunCurryAhn. It was an honor to meet people I have followed and admired for so long. These artists and creators have inspired me with their passion, fully pursuing what they love and sharing Korean pop culture with the world.
For example, as a mostly self-taught dancer, performing for others can be super intimidating. But on the KCON dance floor, I danced the entirety of TT in front of a crowd. A year ago, I never would have been able to do something like this. It’s amazing how support from the K-pop community has given me confidence to share my passion, even if I’m not that great at it yet.
Engaging with the K-Pop community, including fans and creators, was so rewarding. During the concert, it was really refreshing to see new artists perform the classics, such as when SF9 and Cosmic Girls 우주소년 performed Sorry Sorry. As someone who has followed K-Pop for many years, it is so nice to see newer groups honoring the classics which have shaped the genre into what it is today. I can’t wait to continue to interact with the K-Pop community, both newcomers and veterans, in the future.
XOXO, Seoulmate ♥
